Newcastle District Scouts Remember The Fallen

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae, May 1915

We remember all killed in war and especially those Newcastle and Potteries Scouts killed serving their country and we are proud to commemorate them on this Roll of Honour.

Adult Awards

“I’m really pleased to be able to tell you that the following members of our District have been nominated and approved to receive awards.

As you know we would normally keep this quiet, and announce it “this is your life style surprise” at an event.

In these very strange times, we have been given permission to tell recipients, and they will receive their awards when they have been processed. this may take some time.

It’s very nice to have some positive news to share and lift the spirits, I have been able to speak to each recipient and thank them for their contribution to their groups, our District, and most importantly so many young people’s lives. Congratulations to:

Don Hickton : Porthill,  Award for Merit

Jon Mycock: Westlands,  Award for Merit.

Gavin Eardley: St Wulstans , Chief Scouts Commendation for Good service.

Ian Pritchard: Basford,  Award for Merit.

Chris Dunn : Silverdale,  Award for Merit.”

Vera Bloor – District Commissioner

Congratulations: Dot Bailey BEM

The Queen’s Birthday Honours were released today October 10th 2020.
I am sure you would like to join me in congratulating, Mrs Dorothy (Dot) Bailey on being awarded The British Empire Medal for services to Scouting.
Dot is an integral part of our District and is currently our District Secretary. She has supported Scouting locally for over 40 years, and has continued to work tirelessly at both Group and District Level, in a variety of roles for the benefit of the young people within the Association; this is in addition to her responsibilities as a County Training Advisor.

Dot’s commitment, passion and enthusiasm to the District and Scouting as a whole is unquestionable, goes beyond the norm, in ensuring Scouting is moving forward and relevant, and I am delighted she has received national recognition from H.M. The Queen.
B…R….A…V….O…….. and Thank You.

Vera Bloor
District Commissioner

Whitmore Cub Awarded Pride of Birmingham Award!

Huge congratulations to Nate, who is a Cub at 96th Whitmore & Baldwins Gate, on his Pride of Birmingham Award. This wasn’t about being a Scout, this was about friendship, but it certainly demonstrates what being a Scout is all about from the challenge and the commitment, through to the activities he has undertaken.

There is a special appearance by a well known Scout though!

Well done Nate and thanks to those that have supported him. He’s the first up in the video. It’s a lovely watch and something to watch with your young people.

Face to Face Scouting Returns to Newcastle District

Throughout the COVID lock down, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts across the District have been meeting on line as face to face meetings were not possible.

However,  after a lot of planning and paperwork (to ensure everyone’s safety) by their Leaders, 65th Madeley’s Cubs have managed to complete a socially distanced walk!

Well done Madeley and we hope this is the start of a return to face to face Scouting across the District!

St. George’s Day Parade

At this time of year, we normally hold our St. George’s Day Parade and Promise renewal in Newcastle Town Centre.

It wasn’t possible to do it this year due to the Corona virus situation, so instead a virtual St. George’s Day was done instead. We’ve produced this video with the Promise renewals and some special guests.

Enjoy watching.
