On Tuesday 13th May Celestial Explorers finished a community project they had been working on for 6 Months.

The local Jean’s Community Garden, Audley had requested something special be made for their gardens.
Explorer Scouts from Audley got together to build a Bug Hotel for the gardens on Church Street, Audley.

A well-built hotel can shelter anything from Hedgehogs to toads, solitary bees to bumblebees, and ladybirds to woodlice.
A bug hotel can be installed at any time of year.
They usually use natural materials such as straw, dry grass and hollow plant stems.
Project planning, design and DIY are some of the skills learned and evolved over the period of constructing the hotel.

The explorers then enlisted the help of a local ‘man with a van’ to help them transport what had become a meter tall and wide construction from their Scout hall.
They met members of the committee who took receipt of their hard work and were very happy with what had been built.

Some excavation work was required to establish a prominent position in the gardens.
After which everyone was treated to refreshments.

A great example of positive links and work in the community from all Explorer Scouts involved.
