It’s World Kindness Day and Newcastle District Scouts have smashed their target of completing 850 Acts of Kindness to mark the 850 years of Newcastle borough receiving its charter. Since the challenge was set in the spring by District Commissioner Vera Bloor, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts across the borough have been busy supporting their communities.
They have visited care homes, served meals at community lunches, baked cakes, done litter picks, weeded and planted in community gardens, planted seeds and given the plants to local residents, donated to various charities and food banks and even restored a “fairy garden”.
They have held numerous fundraisers and ran in fun runs for many local charities, helped with shopping, used their first aid skills to help an ill shopper, absolutely demonstrating that scouts think of others before themselves, and over the last few weeks, many have helped sell poppies and cleaned war memorials.
We are so proud of these amazing young people, and their volunteer leaders, they are an absolute credit to themselves and testament to the good that scouting does.
