Andy and Sarah are 2 of our amazing Leaders at 96th Whitmore & Baldwins Gate that support a charity, When You Wish Upon A Star. A charity that gave them hope and happy memories in their darkest days as a family. Thankfully they got through this and despite their son Harry still having health issues he just gets on with life; which includes being a Beaver with our Group. They give so much to our community and to our Scout Group and they also want to give back as a family to this charity that is so close to their hearts. They are doing this in 2023 through a variety of different challenges and events to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful charity that really does give families hope in their darkest days.
Andy is running 5 half marathons and the London marathon this year, alongside this they will be completing challenges together as a family. So we their Scouting family decided to join them, to help them give something back and to take on a year of fundraising towards our Community Impact badge.
This started in December 2022 with an absolutely fantastic “Elf Wish Evening”, raising a fantastic £558.53 getting into the festive spirit with the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. It was such a lovely evening which after donning our Elf Hats included a walk around the village, hot chocolate, smores, games, a Christmas movie and a message from a very special friend in the North Pole.
Many members are going to put their neckers on and with their families also go and support them by completing the Stafford Fun Run on the 12th March. We also have Wish Bear (Scout Leader Dave) supporting him with this, what amazing people and role models for our young people.More photos in the gallery.
On Sunday 5th March, Andy and Beaver Harry were live on Radio Stoke talking about Wish and the Scout Group’s involvement for the Community Impact badge. Radio Stoke are following and covering the fundraising over the year.
