Below is part of an appeal by Rabin Dahal, Chief Commissioner Nepal Scouts:-
“On Saturday 25 April 2015 (April 12, 2072 in the Nepali calendar) we have witnessed the most destructive earthquake to reach our country resulting in over 5,000 deaths and many more injured or homeless. The Nepal Scouts pay a heartfelt tribute to all those experiencing those tragic moments for the bereaved families and pledge to do all we can to bring assistance.
The Nepal Scout Disaster Rescue Committee under the leadership of the Chief Commissioner of Scouts decided to deploy support via each District Working Committee of the Nepal Scouts. We are already directing and becoming involved in the rescue work, hampered by many deceased, entire hamlets wiped out and lack of transport. It is difficult to determine the appropriate place to be involved in the relief work. The Nepal Scout National Head Office is handling the heartfelt appeals.
Many may wish to contribute to the objective of support in times of disaster to the earthquake relief fund.”
The World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) has opened a fund to support Scouting in Nepal. If you wish to support Scouting in Nepal, please contribute though: worldscoutfoundation.org/donate and write “Nepal Earthquake 2015” in the comment box.
You may wish to talk to young people about this and there are a range of resources available on Programmes Online scouts.org.uk/pol and check out the International and Global Issues badges.
