On Saturday 11th October, Iceni Explorer Unit headed off to Colwyn Bay to the Watersports Centre.
Travelling by train kept the costs down, and the Colwyn Bay railway station is literally within sight of the Centre so easy to find and walk to.
The group had booked a half day session on the water and left the choice of craft up to the instructors based on the weather conditions on the day. On arrival, the Explorers were shown the crafts and catamarans, which were each worth £10,000, for them to play in!
The Centre has a fantastic range of kit and facilities and Taffy the Director of Services was only too pleased to help us to plan an exciting day.
All of the wetsuits and buoyancy aids were provided as was the instruction.
On arrival everyone got changed ready to hit the water.
The boats were taken down the slip way and the Explorers were shown the basics to get started. The instructor followed on a small boat and circled around the Explorers shouting instructions and showing them how to maneuver the boats and catch the wind in the sails!
At the end of the session hot showers were available inside the centre and everyone tucked into the packed lunch they had taken along
A short walk back to the Station and we were heading back home
The cost… £100 per instructor per session for up to 10 people, train tickets £14.80 per child under 16 return!
Will we go again? You bet we will, it was a great day out! And fab value for money.
