Last weekend the District Explorers had a number of groups out on expeditions and assessments. We had 4 groups walking for the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award from Friday – Sunday: a total of 17 Explorers
We also had an additional 5 groups walking for their Bronze Award on Saturday and Sunday: a total of 25 Explorers
Alongside the assessed walkers, we had a group from Knightrider who were carrying out a Bronze Award practice hike in readiness for assessment in 2015.
Despite the thunder on the Friday night, wet weather on Saturday and the sun on Sunday, the walkers all did very well and the assessors were pleased to able to sign them all off.
There was huge support from the parents and family members who gathered at the finish line and clapped and cheered them all the way as they walked into Tittesworth Visitor Centre – it was very moving and several of the Explorers got quite emotional!
When we get back into our meetings after the summer breaks we will set dates for the Expedition presentations.
Of course this wonderful District event would not have been quite so successful had it not been for the fantastic leaders and supporters who spent their weekend sitting in gateways and lay-bys waiting for the Explorers to turn up. You’re all truly wonderful and both I and the Explorers are grateful to you for your time and dedication
We will look forward to completing the Awards now and moving on to 2015!
