Explorers

Welcome to the Explorer section. We have several Units based in Newcastle Town Centre, Silverdale, Wolstanton, Clayton, Madeley, Ashley and Audley.
As a District we offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme, Young Leadership training as well as all kinds of adventurous and Scouting activities.
If you fancy joining in with the fun as either a young person or as a Leader please contact us by going to our Contact page.
You can see about our Units below

Ashley

No, they’re not named after one of their Leaders or Explorers, they’re based in Ashley!
Meeting every other Friday night they take part in air based activities.
Cheryl is the Unit Leader and Francis is Assistant Leader.

Centurion

Centurion Explorers like to be known as the adventurous activities group.
They meet on a Wednesday night in Wolstanton but can be often found in places such as the Peak District, Lake District, Wales and even as far away as Canada hiking and climbing their way around.
Unsurprisingly they do the Duke of Edinburghs Award too!
Stu is Unit Leader with Assistants Paul, Andy, Teresa & Paul.
Visit their webpage here.

Trinity

Our newest Unit currently operate as part of the Iceni Unit but meet elsewhere in Newcastle on a Monday night.
Andrew, Jan and Andy are building the Unit up and the Explorers are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s scheme next year as well as the Young Leader modules every third Monday in the month.

Iceni

Iceni Explorer Unit/Young Leader Unit meets every week at The Harriet Higgins Hall, Rotterdam Rd, Off Orme Rd. Newcastle. The unit currently has approx 30 members, and has a busy programme of activities and events.
On the 3rd Monday of the month, the Unit runs the Young Leader Training programme, and hosts Explorers from across the District. The Young Leader training is a modular training programme that can be completed with ease over a 12 month period. Module A is a compulsory one for young people who are helping out as volunteers in the younger sections. All of the other modules can be done as required, however once completed, along with the additional work done as a volunteer the Explorers can earn their Young Leader Award and buckle. This Award can be carried over into adult training, and looks great on a CV.
Iceni also support the full Scouting Awards and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Brad, Viv, Sion and Edgy look forward to seeing you at a meeting in the future.

Kingfisher

Based in Clayton, Kingfisher meet every Thursday night.
They are lead by Dennis and Jess and have put several teams through the Duke of Edinburgh’s award in recent years and are a regular ‘Den Team’ at Kibblestone Scout Camp

Please Note: You need to be a pupil at the School to join this Unit.
